Mike a San Diego native, began his officiating career in 1975 as a member of the San Diego County Basketball Official’s Association.
During his tenure in the SDCBOA, Mike officiated over 70 high school playoff games, including 12 CIF Championship games, 3 CIF Southern California Regional finals, 3 CIF State Championship games, and in 2006, he was selected to work the McDonald’s All-American Boys Game, played in San Diego, CA.
Mike served as Vice-President, Board member, and Instructional Chair. In addition, Mike served on numerous basketball committees, was an instructor for the Development of Officials, Basketball Camp Evaluator, and Mentor to the Mentorship Program.
Collegiately, Mike officiated over 40 post season tournament games at the Division II, Division III, NAIA, and Junior College levels. He was selected to work the 2002 California Junior College Basketball Championships in San Diego, CA.
Mike officiated at the Division II level 14 years, Division III/NAIA 27 years, Junior College 34 years and was a member of the International Basketball Federation, FIBA, for 9 years.
In June 2011, Mike retired from the City of San Diego after 37 years as a Park and Recreation Manager. Mike officiated for 40 years and formally retired after the 2016 season.
