Bob Christianson

Bob Christianson was born in New York City and grew up in New Jersey where he played high school tennis at Fair Lawn High School. Following graduation, he played Division 1 tennis at Bucknell, during which time Bucknell won two conference championships.

At age 28, following a playing career in sanctioned USTA events he became a certified tennis official in 1979. In 1982 he was accepted at Indian Wells and at the U.S. Open. During a career spanning 40 years he officiated at numerous international events including Davis and Fed Cups, Wimbledon and the Olympics. During this time Bob also maintained a large San Diego presence at numerous USTA National and ITA (Collegiate) BIOGRAPHIESevents throughout SOCAL. Also, he was the Chief Umpire and chaired the San Diego CIF Boys and Girls Individual and Team

finals for 24 years.

Bob Christianson’s officiating résumé includes: certified official by the USTA, ATP, WTA, ITA, WTT and ITF; President of the San Diego Tennis Umpires Association for two terms, Vice President for seven years, Secretary for four years. Also, Adult Assignments Coordinator for fifteen years and ongoing; ITA Coordinator for three years; member of the Southern California Tennis Officiating Committee; Vice President of the Balboa Tennis Club and Co-Tournament Director of Balboa Tennis Club Championships. 1984 Olympics. Selected for 40 U.S. Opens with more selections than any on court active official. Also longest serving official at ATP WTA Indian Wells at 42 years, ATP Los Angeles and WTA La Costa. Five NCAA Division 1 Championships and Chief Umpire for ITF World Seniors. Chief Umpire and Finals Chair Umpire for San Diego Imperial County CIF Boys and Girls Team and Individual Championships for decades.
