A retired, 20-year Marine Corps veteran (with two tours of duty in Vietnam), Dal began his basketball officiating career in Okinawa.
In 1983, he joined the officiating staff of the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference with later became the Big West Conference.
Dal joined the WCC in the mid 1980's and was a referee in the WAC.
