Frank Alfano

Frank is a San Diego native who attended Crawford High School where he played in 3 CIF Baseball Championship Finals. He was drafted by the New York Mets out of high school, but opted for a baseball scholarship at USC. There he played on 2 college World Series Championship teams. He went on to play for the Minnesota Twins organization in the Midwest and Carolina leagues.

Frank returned to San Diego and joined the San Diego County Football Officials Association. As a 23-year member, he has served 4 terms on the Board of Directors, 1 term as Association President, and 15 years as a Crew Chief. During this time he worked 5 CIF Finals, 3 of them as Crew Chief. Frank continues to serve as an

ongoing instructor.

He also joined the San Diego County Track Starters Association and, in those 5-years, worked 2 CIF Semi-finals as a Starter.

As a 5-year member of the San Diego County Baseball Umpires Association, Frank umpired in Little League, Pony League, High School, and 2 times in the CIF Play-offs. As a 15-year member of the Southern CA Collegiate Umpires Association, he served as Executive Secretary for 6 years and was a 2-time Community College State Play-off Series Umpire. He was also a 12-year Golden State Athletic Conference (NAIA) umpire where he worked 3 Conference Championship Play-offs. In addition, he worked 10 years in the CA Collegiate Athletic Association, where he umpired a Conference Championship Series. From 2012-present, he is a West Coast Conference & CCAA Umpire Observer.

Frank is currently on the SDSU Football Chain Crew. He is also the alternate Assistant Replay Technician, Red Hat and Sideline Assistant for the Mountain West Conference. Since 1995, Frank has volunteered with the San Diego Bowl Association’s Holiday and Poinsettia Bowls. He also volunteers for the Pacific Baseball Umpires Association as a Field Instructor.

Frank retired as a SDFD Fire Captain in 2007 and remains actively involved in football and baseball.
