George Schutte

Football

George A. Schutte was born in Galveston, TX in 1924 of German Immigrant parents. He was a superior athlete. George earned at scholarship to USC, where he played four years of Varsity Football. He served in World War II, in Europe, as a B24 Navigator, at twenty years of age. A 1949, USC graduate, George earned his Master’s Degree, in 1953. George spent a brief time in the FBI. He spent many years on the San Diego City College Faculty, as Professor of Political Science.

He had an Officiating career that spanned 45 years.

George began Officiating football in 1949, high school

basketball in 1953, high school track and field in 1966. SDCFOA Instructional Chairman 1968 until his retirement on 1991. College Football PCAA.

George was Larger than Life, Charismatic, Disciplined, Methodical, Focused,

Selfless, Persistent, Patient, Relentless in the pursuit of Excellence. He was

Always Teaching – Always Coaching. When he spoke you listened. When he said nothing his silence spoke volumes.

George, molded, perfected and documented the philosophy and principles that guide the San Diego County Footballs Officials.
