At the local level, Greg has been a member of the San Diego Hockey Referee Association (SDHRA) since he began officiating ice hockey. Greg has maintained his on-ice involvement, while also serving on the SDHRA Board for many years, currently serving as President of the group. Greg is a longtime member of USA Hockey, and has worked multiple national events in that organization. One of the most gratifying parts of being an official is the chance to mentor new officials and help educate others in the details of sports officiating.
Greg reached his goal of working the minor professional ranks and, after 25 years, recently worked his last professional game as a Linesman in the American Hockey League. Over the years he has officiated in several leagues (West Coast Hockey League, East Coast Hockey League and American Hockey League) and has had the opportunity to officiate in many of the western states.
In addition to ice hockey Greg has officiated inline (roller) hockey at multiple levels including professional. Hockey is not his only interest, as Greg is a boy’s and men’s lacrosse official also, having served in the San Diego County Lacrosse Officials Association for over 25 years. During that time Greg has officiated at the high school and college lacrosse levels. Greg has officiated several CIF Section championships and loves the fast pace of the game. In 2018 Greg retired from the fire department as a Deputy Fire Chief after serving for nearly 36 years. He spends his free time with his girlfriend Lillie in the outdoors, riding motorcycles, and has resumed playing ice hockey at a local rink.
