Hans began refereeing in 1962 at Robb Field in Point Loma. By 1996, he had founded the San Diego County Soccer Referee Association (SDCRA).
Refereeing at high school, college and junior level from 1970 to 2006.
Hans could be found at the "problem" games each afternoon (If it was anticipated a referee might need support, Hans would be there).
