In 1977, Jim graduated in the top of his class from the Bill Kinnamon School for Professional Baseball Umpires while earning his BS at California Lutheran University. In 1981, Jim Began umpiring for the NCAA Division I Baseball Regionals and has worked every Regional game for 30 consecutive years. He has also umpired the Super-Regionals for 11 consecutive years since 1999. He has also umpired the NCAA College World Series eight times.
Jim currently umpires in the Pac 12, Big 12, Conference USA, and the Western Athletic Conference. Jim has also worked the World Championships and several international tournament's as well as the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.
