John graduated from Oceanside High School in 1954 where he played both Basketball and Football. He officiated with the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials from 1961-1972, serving as President in 1961. John was a member and leader of the San Diego County Football Officials Association from 1963 – 1990, where he officiated at all levels from Youth to NCAA. John was an exceptional Referee/Crew Chief. He was noted for working afternoon High School Varsity Games with George Schutte wherein they worked to develop future outstanding Officials and leaders of the SDCFOA.
