Mike Basalo

Basketball

Mike, a native San Diegan, was an active member of the San Diego County Basketball Officials Association for forty years. He worked High School basketball for 20 years in San Diego County, including four C. I. F. Championship Games. He taught the Probationary Basketball Officials class for San Diego County for 20 years. He officiated college basketball for 30 years. He officiated in the Pacific Coast Athletic Association (forerunner of the Big West), the West Coast Athletic Conference, and the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Mike was an International Basketball official for 23 years. He officiated the U.S.A. versus U.S.S.R. basketball game at the Los Angeles Sports Arena in November 1977. Dream Team versus College All-Stars series in 1992, and the Olympic trials in Sydney, Australia (1985). He was the official Scorer for Basketball at the Los Angeles (1984) and Atlanta (1996) Olympic Games.

Mike umpired professional baseball in the Pioneer and Alaskan Baseball Leagues. He umpired College and High School games in the San Diego County area for 10 years. Mike was a teacher, counselor and coach at San Pasqual High for 32 years. He was selected to the San Pasqual High School Hall of Fame in 2008 (The inaugural class). He was selected to the San Diego County Sports Officials Hall of Fame in 2009.
