Mike Winters

Born in Oceanside in 1958, Mike grew up in Clairemont where he played and fell in love with baseball. His first job umpiring came at the Clairemont Hilltoppers Little League in 1973 at the age of 14. Shortly after that, he realized that he wanted umpiring to be his career. In 1978, he joined the San Diego County Baseball Umpires Association and began umpiring High School baseball at the junior varsity level.

He worked his first MLB game in Los Angeles July 9, 1988. He was hired full-time by the National League on April 9, 1990,

and still serves the MLB today.

Mike has been fortunate to have been on the field for some very memorable moments, including Mark McGwire breaking Roger Maris' home run record, Tony Gwynn and Cal Ripken Jr. getting their 3000th hits, and witnessing four no-hitters. He saw Trevor Hoffman tie and then break the all-time saves record.

He has worked the 2002, 2006 and 2010 World Series, seven Divisional Playoffs, four league Championship Series and the 1995, 2007 and 2010 All Star Games.
