Paul Runge

A 1950 Graduate of San Diego High School, Runge was recognized and voted to First Team All-City Baseball for three consecutive years. Then after graduating from Arizona State University, Runge went on to play three years of Minor League Baseball. Then began a career in umpiring, spending nine years in the minors, one year in the California League,

two in the Eastern League and six in the Pacific Coast League. 

Paul began his 23-year Major League Baseball officiating in 1974 and retired in 1997.

During his career he served on the Major League Umpires Assocation Board of Directors, serving eight years as Vice President, and eight years as president, finishing his career as Executive Director of Umpires, under former National League President, Leonard Colman Jr. 

Paul's post season games include three All Star Games, nine National League Championship Series, and four World Series. 

He is very proud to be part of the only three generation family of Umpires to reach Major League Baseball including his father, Ed, and son, Brian.
