In 1998, he volunteered and joined the Oceanside American Little League where he umpired and served on the Board of Directors as League President. Following his service on the board, Sal was selected, and currently serves, as an Assistant District Administrator for Little League District 70.
In 2008, Sal joined Pacific Baseball Umpires and worked several playoff games, including three Championship Finals. He served on the UDP staff and the Treasurer for the past 10 years. In addition, he umpired junior college baseball for the San Diego Pacific Coast League.
In addition to baseball, Sal is a member of the San Diego County Football Officials Association (SDCFOA), the North County Basketball Officials Association (NCBOA) and the Margarita Officials Association(MOA). Sal currently serves as the Treasurer for both NCBOA and MOA.
Sal has umpired the Little League Western Region Tournament and the Junior League Regional Tournament where he was selected to Umpire the semifinals, finals and received a recommendation to advance to the World Series for both tournaments. In 2020, he was selected to Umpire the Junior League World Series, in Taylor, Michigan.
Sal and his wife Cindy have been married for 31 years and live in Fallbrook. Sal and Cindy have two sons, Vincent 27, and Nicholas 24.
