Tom Ables

Football

Tom is a San Diego native, a graduate of Point Loma High School and San Diego State. He joined the San Diego County Football Officials Association (SDCFOA) in 1974; Tom served as the SDCFOA President, was elected to the SDCFOA Board of Directors and served as a Board Member for 40 years; elected to serve for 20 years and 20 as the SDCFOA Board appointed High School Assigner.

High School Varsity Referee/Crew Chief for 17 years. Tom worked numerous High School playoff games and 7 CIF Championship games. He was an NCAA official for 16 years. Tom is the SDCFOA Assignment Secretary, responsible for assigning officials to all High School football games in San Diego County.

Tom was a baseball umpire for 24 years with the North Shores Umpire School and San

Diego County Baseball Umpires Association (17 years), Tom served as a board member with the County Baseball Association and was a Probationary Class instructor. He worked multiple PONY and Colt post-season tournaments as well as High School playoff games, working 2 CIF Championship games.

Tom spent seven years as a part of the San Diego Women’s Basketball Officials Association and the San Diego County Basketball Officials Association working youth and High School games.
